25th Annual Crime Prevention Guide - 25e Guide annuel de prévention du crime 7 Dean Secord As President of the New Brunswick Police Association, I am very proud to introduce the NB Police Association’s 25thAnnual Crime Prevention Guide.This publication is made possible by the contributions and support of many individuals, businesses and organizations throughout the province, and we are very grateful for their donations. This year’s guide focuses on the very serious topic of Children’s Internet Safety. The Internet is one of the greatest technologies, but it can also be a very dangerous place, and many children don’t understand the dangers. It can harm children mentally (by seeing pornographic photos) and physically (by chatting with someone who could find them and do them harm). Parents should be aware of what their children are doing on the computer. Making rules for the Internet is also a good way of protecting your children. Remind your children to never give out any type of personal information! On behalf of the New Brunswick Police Association, I encourage you to read through this year’s book and educate yourself on this ongoing concern, and to help the community grow in the prevention of abuse and protect the children we love. If you have concerns about any child’s safety on the internet, please do not hesitate to contact the police. Le guide de cette année met l'accent sur le sujet très grave de la sécurité des enfants vis-à-vis l’Internet. L'Internet est l'une des plus grandes technologies, mais il peut aussi être un endroit très dangereux et beaucoup d'enfants ne comprennent pas les dangers. Il peut nuire aux enfants mentalement (en voyant des photos pornographiques) et physiquement (en discutant avec quelqu'un qui pourrait les trouver et leur faire du mal). Les parents doivent être conscients de ce que leurs enfants font sur l'ordinateur. L'élaboration de règles pour l'Internet est aussi un bon moyen de protéger vos enfants. Rappelez à vos enfants de ne donner aucun type d'information personnelle! Au nom de l'Association des policiers du Nouveau-Brunswick, je vous encourage à lire à travers le livre de cette année pour vous renseigner sur cette préoccupation constante, et d'aider la communauté à grandir dans la prévention des abus et de protéger les enfants que nous aimons.
